Michael J. RussellIntroduction
Mike Russell has been consulting since 1999. He is an information technology and entrepreneurial professional whose 23+ years of experience and multi-disciplinary skills include strategic analysis of emerging technologies and markets, (especially social networking and collaborative applications), information security and privacy, training and e-learning, and commercial website/portal design for usability.

Mr. Russell maintains a strong commitment to public health, safety and security.
He is a member of INFRAGARD, a past member of the
American Society for Law Enforcement Training (ASLET) and a current member of IACSP.

Beginning his career in Philadelphia and New York City marketing computer graphics workstations to scientific and engineering clients, Mr. Russell developed what has become a life-long passion for seeking out new ways to use technology to improve the human condition.

Dr. David Gelernter

Leveraging several early successes, Mr. Russell marketed the Torque ComputeServer®, an innovative, low-cost "desktop supercomputer" system, based on proprietary technology developed in collaboration with digital visionary David Gelernter. Beginning in 1989, he sold and deployed these systems to U.S. Army and Navy, Department of Energy CEBAF (Jefferson Labs), Hampton University, NASA, NIH, NOAA and other early adopter clients.

In 1996, he led and managed a team that developed one of the first commercially successful, Internet banking applications, Web@TM™ (pronounced Web ATM). In this capacity, he oversaw all aspects of product interface design, core Java development and final integration. In its first deployment with STC, a PA-based financial institution, this system was awarded first place in financial technology portal MicroBanker’s Best in Remote Banking category.

The core Web@TM™ functionality and interface developed by Mr. Russell’s team in partnership with Sybase's Financial Fusion business unit, were subsequently licensed in 1997 by Sumitomo-Mitsui Banking Corp. and other international financial institutions, then later adapted for wireless deployment. Another web-based application (for  international  supply chain management) developed by Mr. Russell and his team was licensed jointly to Oracle Corp. and Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Mike Russell also has significant experience as a business development rainmaker and manager of strategic alliances.

Building Communities, Creating Value
WIRED: The Epic Saga of The WELLAs Partner Development Manager for WELLengaged, the professional services group of San Francisco-based The WELL, (described by WIRED magazine as The World's Most Important Online Community), Mr. Russell directly managed or played an active role in many of the first and largest commercial deployments of web-based online communities and discussion forums for major media, corporate and NGO clients, including: AARP, C-SPAN, Christian Science Monitor, Dow Jones/WSJ.com, FreeMarkets.com (now Ariba), Sony Music Canada, St. Petersburg Times and the World Trade Organization.

Forging Alliances
Deloitte + Touche Fast 500As Director of Strategic Alliances for AppWorx Corp. of Bellevue WA, Mike Russell secured key OEM, VAR and channel sales agreements with major enterprise software developers and systems integrators, DoD contractors and international implementation partners. Key partners included: Accenture, American Management Systems (AMS), GE, Mitre, Oracle, PeopleSoft, PWC Global, Raytheon, Retek, Sierra Systems and Teleglobe Canada. AppWorx was named a Deloitte & Touche FAST 50 and FAST 500 company, based on new product and service sales revenue generated during this period.

Contributing and Creating
Mike Russell is active in the Keystone chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), the PA e-Commerce Association and Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP).

He works with federal, state and local leaders on technology and public policy issues, and presents frequently to diverse industry and civic groups. Most recently, he has been invited to join the Advisory Committee to the Congressional Internet Caucus.

Mr. Russell has studied speech and acting at the HB Studio in New York City, founded by the late Uta Hagen. He and his family presently reside in Centre County PA, and are active in church, civic and community volunteer activities.
